Not familiar with them. How much do they go for? Surprised Gibson puts out a good sounding acoustic, Ive always just assumed Fender and Gibson should stick to electronics but I guess I've never played an expensive acoustic by either.

These are some pictures I got off of Ebay, so its not my guitar but its the same model and will have to due for now. They advertise at 2530, I got mine for 2200, Gibson makes great high end guitars in my opinion. A family friend of mine used to be a guitar dealers through their family business, I think I mentioned that earlier but in another thread. Anyways they didn't deal Gibsons for some reason, but both agreed that the Hummingbird is one of the best, if not the best, rhythm guitars ever made. When I get more set on money after school I will buy a Vintage Hummingbird. If you want to play a great Gibson acoustic, I would recommend going to guitar center or whatever gibson dealer is close to you, and play a Hummingbird, Dove, J45, Southern Jumbo, or a Songwriter Delux. For me, its a tie between the Hummingbird, Dove, and Southern Jumbo. They didn't have any Southern Jumbos where I went but I still would have gone with the Hummingbird, it felt too perfect to pick anything else. I really don't think you can go wrong with any of those. I did play an Old 60's Dove that may have been the best guitar Ive ever played, but was 5 grand. When I first got the Hummingbird a few days ago I was so happy with the sound that I didn't even realize that the pickgaurd was coming up and there were some scratches from being played in the store, but I took it back the next day and they gave me a new one right out of the box, so its flawless and if I want to sell it in the future, I have the original box and all of the paperwork, which apparently for some reason increases its value.

And just for kicks, this is what I upgraded from.

God that's beautiful. I have had my eye on a hummingbird and a J45 forever.

yea hummingbirds are nice. real big, vintage acoustic sound... course gibson dreadnaughts (good ones) are like that. I think they have some of the best pick-guards ever, I love that design it just screams 1960's at me.

how are you gonna mic that bitch without a pickup? A good one will set you back about 200 without have to drill holes or anything. I recommend something from LR baggs

It came with an LR baggs pickup already installed. The newer models all have them I think. I'm not positive though.

congrats on a great guitar...I am a big fan of Gibson acoustics. I thought long and hard about trading my HD-35 for a Gibson but then decided what the hell, and I kept my Martin and bought a Gibson CJ-165. Now I just need more time play both...

Thanks. I was never a big fan or Gibson guitars until a few months ago a friend of mine got a J-45 and I thought it was pretty nice, but not nice enough to turn me away from Martin. Then when I was trying to get myself out of the mess I was in I played the Hummingbird and playing other guitars isn't the same anymore. I will get a D-35 someday, but I will be buying a few more Gibsons before that happens. I absolutely love them now.

How are you liking that CJ-165? I've been wanting to try one out, but haven't had the chance yet. Are you playing mostly fingerstyle on it, or strumming?

I love it...I find myself giving the CJ-165 much more attention than the HD-35. The smaller size and short scale makes for a very comfortable and playable guitar. I bought the guitar as an excuse to try to teach myself finger-style blues but I have to confess that I haven't put much effort into that yet and I am playing it mostly with a pick. It sounds great both ways.
