is there a scale which can be used for most songs, and all you would have to do is just change which note you start from?

im sorry if you find me an asshole, but you are asking a lot of questions expecting easy answers. i would have to explain many concepts in order to answer your question thoroughly and correctly, which would be rather inefficient on the boards (because i have done it before and it helps very little)HCHaikuWarrior wrote:fat jack, why the fuck are you such an ass hole..i've been playing for a year, give me a fuckin break, don't say something if your shit mouth has nothing better to say, cocky bastard.
if you would like help with questions like these, you can IM me and i can go into depth much easier

Wait....did fatjack just offer help in a polite and respecful manner? I must be drunk. Just kidding buddy,
I agree that broad questions about music theory are pointless to answer. Theory has to be something your constantly learning. If you don't have a desire to really learn it and understand it than your probably better off not going there. Most people eaither dive right into it or don't bother learning any of it. You can be a great guitarist and not no theory but you probably won't be much of a musician if you know what I mean.

I always tell people to star with the major scale. Every scale you will likely see/hear is a variation on the major scale so it makes sense to start there.i personally advocate pentatonic major or minor, it's a good start
If your serious you should study intervals before you learn any scales. I assure you they are extremely important for a global understanding of music in general. Melody, harmony, scales, arpeggios, all come down to intervals.
