Singing question???
Looking for a little help here. See, I've noticed that after I've been singing for a while (like really singing my heart out) my voice becomes rougher, slightly deeper and much smoother(I know rougher and smoother are opposites, but it's hard to explain. Hopefully you know what I mean) when singing. It's also much easier to hit high notes without my voice cracking. I was wondering if there is any way to get to that stage quicker than say, 30 minutes or so?

I always drink red wine or whiskey before singing. Really helps your vocal chords open up.
Also the money shot is a few teaspoons of honey plain or mixed with hot water or tea with lemon.

I'm 14 so first is out of the question, and the second seems odd but whatever works.Kahn wrote:I always drink red wine or whiskey before singing. Really helps your vocal chords open up.

From a Ben Harper DVD (Pleasure and Pain) Ben said he drinks loquat syrup to clear his voice, and basically says it works wonders.

I like to drink wine when I'm singing for some reason...but the best for my voice is hot tea, preferably green tea. Honey in the tea helps too. Even warm water helps. Anything warm pretty much will do the trick, even like hot cider.
Don't go for hot chocolate though or anything that can cause you to form mucus. My friend's vocal teacher told her not to eat anything like cookies or cake beforehand either because that causes you to form mucus too.

Re: Singing question???
I think there are two things going on at once. If your voice is getting rougher as you sing its likely vocal fatigue which is not good. You are essentially slowly going hoarse. The flip side is your voice is getting smoother because your vocal cords are warming up.gunnar1104 wrote:Looking for a little help here. Do you ever feel pain or tension in your jaw or throat?
I would recommend taking some singing lessons. There are ways to sing in a raspy voice that will not hurt you in the long run.
Do I listen to pop music because I'm miserable or am I miserable because I listen to pop music?
