Sucks for DMB, but good for Butch. The band is terrible these days and he should probably playing with a better group.

Maybe their albums have gone downhill, but the show on Saturday was amazing. Live they still got it, FAR from terrible.

I stopped seeing them live after their winter tour right after (or around?) Stand Up. Of course, it's all opinion, but I don't like the new songs from last year and I don't like Tim Reynolds.

Re: Butch leaves the band

I just think he's a tasteless player. I don't like his tone, technique, licks, over-playing, use of effects, etc. I just don't dig his style, with D+T or with the full band, though I've only heard a little bit of him full band. IMO, I think his playing lacks substance.

I agree and disagree with all of this.Cor wrote:I've explained this a couple of times before, it seems to come up once or twice a year, but it's cool.

There are times that I can't stand him playing because he plays annoying riffs or sound effects, but then there are times when he plays this amazing fill or solo that gives me a musical boner and totally and completely makes up for every sucky/lackluster thing that he played prior.

Would you happen to have an example of what you think is just an excellent Tim moment? Maybe I haven't heard enough.btbesong wrote:I agree and disagree with all of this.Cor wrote:I've explained this a couple of times before, it seems to come up once or twice a year, but it's cool.

And if you say "Stream" I'm discounting your opinion entirely

Hmm....specific tim moments for me are mainly from the luther college cd. On cry freedom he plays only one note in the middle of the song that just gives me chills, its one note, but it's perfect and i cant listen to any other version of cry freedom because none of the others have it. Another is the typical situation solo on luther college, it just does it for me. I love him on seek up as well.
But its not like you havent listened to tim enough to appreciate him. Being a dave fan, you know how he is. He's a much better backup player than anything else. His solo stuff sucks and sounds very un-inspired almost always. I just appreciate him more in the background playing on notes that compliment dave or his voice. Sometimes it's good, sometimes not so much.

I can't believe you think a terrible player can make the #41 solo and the Seek Up fills in L@LC!!
But I agree that he has bad moments and his solo stuff is not awesome...

Re: Butch leaves the band
I really don't think I will miss Butch, definitely not his scatting. He had a good run with the band. Maybe Rashawn will disappear too and we can get some classic DMB sound back.
