When strumming, how do you

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

do that mute pausing thing that everyone else can do except me. X marks the spot.

Verse
E:-2--------x--------------------------
B:-3--------x--------------------------
G:-2--------x-----------2--------4--4--
D:-0--------x--0--2--4-----4-----2--2--
A:----4--2--x--------------------------
E:-----------x-----------------3--------
4 1 1 4 1 4 2

Code: Select all

Verse
E:-2--------x--------------------------
B:-3--------x--------------------------
G:-2--------x-----------2--------4--4--
D:-0--------x--0--2--4-----4-----2--2--
A:----4--2--x--------------------------
E:-----------x-----------------3--------
      4 1 1 4 1 4 2
well, I just lay my fret hand across all the strings. If you play it like that, just use a downstroke for the mute.

Code: Select all

E:-2-xx--------------------------
B:-3--------xx--------------------------
G:-2--------xx----------2--------4--4--
D:-0--------xx-0--2--4-----4-----2--2--
A:----4--2--xx-------------------------
E:----------xx---------------3--------
I play it like that, in which I use a downstroke--upstroke. Try to get ahold of a dave solo version, if u want I could look one up for ya and send it over aim or something. It'd help a lot

just practifce man..

also if don't want to get your left hand fingers out of line, you can just hit the strings with your right hand. i think thats what i do for this song.

Wahay!!

I'm so glad I stumbled across this site. It actually sounds alright now. I've found a solo version. I'll check it out when it's downloaded.

Cheers guys!

i slap my left hand down across all the strings real quick and do three muted strums, you just have to practice it slowly and speed it up, you'll get used to slaps like that

I don't know about the rest of you, but after the D Chord, and the 4 2, I pause and then do the one mute note, does anyone else do that? It sounds jsut like the album version when I do that.

if you listen closely there is definitely a 3 stroke mute, one of them is just a little more accentuated

it fits in perfectly with an up-down-up motion
