So back to topic? No?
Is John Mayer Pop?
Thoughts?
Cheers!
[HiFi!]
I dont' know if anyone else said this casue I didnt read the whole thread, but, of course JM is pop. DMB is pop too. All those little girls that bought backstreet boys CD's 5 years ago, are buying the DMB Cd's now.
Aren't DMB nominated for the best pop artist at the Grammys??
hmmm....i guess maybe we're hoping that dmb is still the band we knew and loved 5 years ago, with stuff like btcs coming out....not the mainstream pop-band the media tries to make them out to be,
the good thing is, i have some hope...i heard the band jamming on a soundcheck and it was the coolest music i've heard in a LONG time....i guess they just need to release some stuff like that...

wow, can't believe you just compared songs like man on the side and neon to fucking SK8TER BOI AND COMPLICATED. his guitar work is some of the best out there today, probably the best in the mainstream of music. i'm glad he's made it big because he can put everyother douche bag nickleback/creed/puddle of mudd crappy power chord players out there to shame. i'm not going to comment on his lyrics because i agree they can be weak at times (though you have to look at what dave had experienced at 24 versus what john has experienced at 24), but he absolutely rapes avril lavigne guitar wise. no contest.

i have one of the pictures here on my computer, someone can IM me for it if they want to host it somewhere.
the guitar player from creed is actually pretty good
Everybody always asks me how she's doing. Has she really lost her mind? I said "I couldn't tell you, I've lost mine."

actually i dont listen to creed at all
but he was voted 'best new guitarist of the year' a few years back by guitar world magazine and from what ive heard on the radio, his songs arent too easy.
i learned one creed song, one last breath, because i liked the intro riff.
not too hard but worthy of being called 'not a piece of shit'

no, what is funny is that you even mentioned avril levigne in the same breath as dave matthews

avril lavigne writes some good lyrics but her songs are shit
she should have written a book of poetry instead

She's only like 17 or 18 eh? Her songs are catchy, and they sound good on the radio, better than a lot of other pop stuff on there.
plus, i'd do her!

Granted Dave Matthews has influenced many people including myself, does it make them "copycats" or "wanabes"? If James Taylor just released Fire and Rain or Dylan - Tangled Up In Blue, would they be wanabes too?
Is Phish a wanabe Dead show? Sure, but they have only modeled themselves after the Dead, they didn't just make a carbon copy and try to sell it, they worked for it themselves and have put in their time to be recongnized and while resembeling the Dead, are their own band.
As for John and Avril, I think they lack the maturity and originality needed to last long term. Just my opinion (I could be wrong ya' know)

Hey John where'd you get the tab for that song? I've looked for but haven't been able to find a good one. I don't really need the whole thing, I just like the intro riff, too. Got a link?
