Burn One Down Tab

Unread post by jebro » Wed Jan 15, 2003 3:45 pm

Does anyone have a good tab of this song, or can you tell me how it should be played? I have found one on the internet but its not very good. Any help would be appreciated.

First off. You have to know that Ben Harper's guitar is tuned an ENTIRE STEP DOWN. It's basically like doing every string in drop D format. But Here is the tab that I have for it from watching Ben play it. This is almost perfect:

Code: Select all

Note: G Chords can be played with the 3onA also(as the fuller G-chord)

Intro/Fill
D:---3-------3---------------------------
A:---0-------0---------------------------
F:---0-------0---------------------------
C:---0-------0------------------------0-- then
G:---2-------2------0--2-----3--2--0-----
D:-3-3---3-3-3---3--------3--------------

D:---3-------3--------------------------
A:---0-------0--------------------------
F:---0-------0--------------------------
C:---0-------0-------------------------- or
G:---2-------2------0--2-----3---2---0--
D:-3-3---3-3-3---3--------3-------------

D:---3-------3-----------------------------
A:---0-------0-----------------------------
F:---0-------0-----------------------------
C:---0-------0--------------------------0--
G:---2-------2------0--2-----3-3--2--0-----
D:-3-3---3-3-3---3--------3----------------
*It goes 1st part x2....then 2nd or 3rd part....then 1st part again

Verse
D:---3-------3-----3-----------0---------0-----------
A:---0-------0-----0-----------0---------1-----------
F:---0-------0-----0-----------0---------0-----------
C:---0-------0-----0-----------2---------2-----------
G:---2-------2-----2-----------2----3~~~~3--3--2--0--
D:-3-3---3-3-3---3-3---3--2--0-0-0~~-----------------

Chorus("If You Don't Like my fire...")
D:---3-------3-----0----0----0-----2--------------3-----0-----2--
A:---0-------0-----0----0----0-----3--------------0-----0-----3--
F:---0-------0-----0----0----0-----2--------------0-----0-----2--
C:---0-------0-----2----2----2---0-0--------------0-----2---0-0--
G:---2-------2-----2----2----2---------3--2--0----2-----2--------
D:-3-3---3-3-3---0-0--0-0--0-0------------------3-3---0-0--------
Hope that helps....PEACE

yep, another good song to segue burn one down into is the joker by steve miller band. it's also in standard d and has a similar riff to it. both crowd pleasers, so it works.

It's basically just a rip off fo the opening riff from "Redemption Song" - very similar at least.. the tab jkanter posted is correct...

however Ben doesn't always tune down any more. In fact, I'm quite certain that on his last tour, he didn't tune his guitar down at all (he did it to compliment his voice better, but he has improved his vocal range and can sing wel and in tune without tuning down these days) on the last tour.

If you have Live From Mars give it a listen to and I'm sure you'll find he's in standard tuning.

God fearing man--your actually right about the tuning.

In Harper's "Live from Mars" album---most tunes were done in standard tuning. I saw him in concert in Toronto two years ago, and it was definetly in standard tuning there too (he also opened up for DMB in Buffalo in July 2000)

Im a huge fan of Ben Harper myself. you can find GREAT (practically perfect) tabs of his songs at

http://benharpertablatures.free.fr/english_index.htm

Theres even a link to this site from Ben Harpers official site, so im guessing that these are all super accurate and endorsed by Harper.

Hope that helped.

and redemption song is basically just a rip off of the g major scale. all music comes from somewhere else. all artists draw on inspiration from other sources, its all straight.
