back from break with a new cover

Unread post by horsmar15 » Mon Jan 12, 2004 4:35 pm

Hey y'all, it's been a while for me seeing as I was on break and had no computer at home. Well, I learned cannonball by Damien Rice at home and decided to post a cover of it. you can dld it here http://www.angelfire.com/music5/horsmar15/. I did it all on one track so the quality dosen't sound perfect, but anyways tell me what ya think.
I'll be around now to respond to some of the posts ive missed over break.

I updated this cover with a new one I recorded today. The first one was a little sketchy. No one responded to the first version, but I figured that I would update it anyhow. Enjoy!

Great Job!

Hey man that was pretty damn good. The guitar playing was fantastic!! Vocals can use a bit of work but that is one tough song to sing. The voice fluctuations are all through it. I know, i cover it all the time. I think you have the voice to sing it. It seems like you're really holding back. I guess time and practice will let it out of the bag.

I'd love to see the tab you used. Mine is very different than yours...i added a bunch of my own stuff to it. Anyway, fantastic job on a very tough tune!

a lot of people doing damien lately, which is excellente. a little too fast on this one...solid overall, but with the fast pace it gives it a bit of a "sing-songy" rhythm sometimes, which ruins the emotional impact of the song. vocals do need some work...it seems like with your vocal style you're straining your throat way too much so it gives it a strained sound when you sing. cool for blues, but it doesn't help on the high notes on this one, and you did a great job with what you had. work more on dynamics, too. there's a lot of loud and soft moments throughout the song, and that lends itself to helping reveal the emotional undercurrents that are rampant throughout the song. keep working on it and i'm sure it could be even better.

6.8/10 chopsticks.

thanks for the comments, as far as the vocals go I have a few questions to ask in order to make them better. When it comes to the high notes is it wavering pitch or something else that I am doing wrong, because I don't think I am going off key, or mabye I am. As for that strained sound that is how I naturally learned to sing, any advice to get rid of it? (mabye vocal lessons or something of that nature?) Thanks.
