Help.. I just bought an Alvarez AD60SCBK

Unread post by Stephen » Mon Jan 12, 2004 12:32 pm

I bought an Alvarez AD60SCBK and just got it from Music123 (waited 2 weeks for it!) Anyway, it makes rattling noises when I fret the the A string at the fifth fret (like when I'm tuning it).. it also makes rattling noises in the low E string before the forth fret and a little on the fifth.
I'm used to my Ibanez AW100 and when I compare sounds the AW100 wins by far.
My first question is, is the guitar defective.. and should I return it for a different guitar or the same? I'm guessing it is. I've been playing the guitar for about a year.. I can only play songs and I know not a thing about the technicalities of the guitar.
If I return the guitar, should I get the same one or return it for a different one. I wanted a black electric-acoustic, as my ibanez is just an acoustic, as the alvarez had everything I wanted.
Another thing I thought of is installing a preamp (or pickup whatever its called) in my ibanez. First off, would it deteriorate the sound of my guitar if someone with ghetto tools installs it? Which preamp do you recommend? And would you trust Sam Ash to do it for you (They do offer this service right?)...
Oh well... any help and recommendations would be appreciated!
Thanks.
