So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

oh and Typical Situation and Proudest Monkey are good starting points, and the Lie In Our Graves jam, which is fun to jam out on for a while

Truth, however he said he wanted to mostly play "dave and goo goo dolls" I don't think the guy from Goo Goo Dolls has ever played an open D-chord in his life, so I just stuck with Dave. SORRY ERIC

i cant help u with gibson's, ive never played one. but if u like it, if its in ur price range, and it sounds good, then sure why not. buying a first guitar can be tough cuz u dont wanna spend too much just in case for some reason u dont stick with it, but u wanna get a good one cuz learning how to play on a shitty guitar will be hard/no fun

Do you have a link or anything to the guitar you're considering? I know of no Gibsons in the $300 range.

For what it's worth, I highly suggest an Alvarez. They make great guitars and sell them quite cheap for their high level of playability and quality. I have one, and I would suggest it to ANY new player. Also, I'm with Sims... I know of no cheap Gibsons.

well if it were me, id go for a Yamaha instead of a Fender, especially around the $300 range. i dont know much about alvarez's tho. I think Yamaha makes a pretty good guitar for $300. But there r also some Martins under $500, not far under, but under nontheless. These r the guitars i checked out when i was looking:

Yamaha FG730S (which i own)
Martin DX1
Martin DXK2 Koa
Taylor Big Baby

Uh, if you're talking about acoustics (which I assume you are), I would highly suggest against them. I personally do not like them, and at one point I owned one as a beater. Yamaha makes some decent guitars for pretty cheap. If it were me, I'd check out Alvarez and Martins in the $500 range are a good bet too. As a new player, make sure you get a guitar with low action, meaning the strings aren't far or hard to push down on the fretboard. A guitar with a low action makes learning so much easier.

Yup it does. Ask them if they would do a free "setup" of your guitar, which is new strings, tuning, truss rod adjustment if it needs one, etc. The Big Baby is probably a really good bet for you. Good luck and enjoy playing!

Couldn't agree more. Already said it twice, but no one listens about Alvarez.
