Steady As We Go ... I find the guitar part very elusive.

some dave songs are hard to play and sing at the same time but if you just play its not really all that hard. Ants for instance and fool to think.
To be honest i cant play the stone for the life of me

The crash one doesnt seem right but as far as ants, if you actually listen hard to the studio album, dave only strums and lets the band fill.SRVDMB wrote:Jeter wrote:I have the supposedly approve Dave Matthews book from Guitar center, it is close to the Tabs that are posted here. The notes for Crash into Me show, base note then down up down up, base note then down down up, repeat with moving the base note. However this does not sound like the actual song.
Does some know the actual strumming on this song or is it posted here somewhere?
Thanks, Jeter
My uncle bought the Dave Matthews book too and it had ants marching as D strum alittle bit then G with no fill.
I have the Crash "Play it Like it Is" Version, and I can vouch for the transcprition being pretty damn accurate as far as the studio version goes. (You do have to get the Play it Like it Is versions, as there are now some EZ Guitar versions as well) It really does help to be able to count rhythms out to fully utilize the music books, the tab parts only give you the notes to play, but the notation itself is what will help you figure out what strum patterns to use. Now live, Dave will add extra strums here and there.
Off the top of my head, the studio version rhythm is basically "ONE two a three e AND four and a ONE two a three e AND four and a" repeating...(The capitalized parts are where the bass notes fall.) I would play that as
DOWN down up down up DOWN down down up...(so 9 strokes a measure)
Now live, Dave will play around with it changing the rhtyhm from "ONE two a three e AND four and a" to stuff like "ONE two a three e AND four e and a"
So that would be DOWN down up down up DOWN down up down up, etc
As for Ants Marching, I have the UTTAD Play it Like it Is tabbook as well, and the fill in between the D and G chords is most definitely written out! I think maybe the person that only saw the D and G chords written out must have been looking at a tab version for Easy Guitar.
