Those are great points, man.c_tietze wrote:Dave Matthews' style and lyrical approach has made millions of kids think that they could pick up an acoustic and be a rock star. His style, his attack, he's the best at what he does.
For instance, to me, Cornbread, I fucking hated the song until I heard the RC version and I was fucking blown away. The bridge/chorus, where his voice jumps an octave. It's classic Dave.
And to be totally honest, his style while not inventing the wheel has been imitated by countless individuals, his tours gross in the top 5 every year gross cashola.
Haters are jealous, fuck 'em.
P.S.
Glad to be back on dmbtabs, I've been on hiatus.

Re: Dealing With Dave Matthews Haters
When I get shit from people I just simply say that I've been listening to Dave's music every day for the last five years (and off and on before that) and I've never gotten tired of it. I've never said, "Man, I'm getting tired of DMB. Let me put on something else."
DMB sends everyone else home in a box with a hunk of cheese in their ass.

people do have a right to hate the music you listen to. just like you have a right to hate the music they listen

That's the thing though, these guys are like classically trained musicians for the most part. It's not like they're a bunch of donkeys making noise in their parents garage and got lucky.Easy E wrote:people do have a right to hate the music you listen to. just like you have a right to hate the music they listen
I think people feel like DMB has jumped the shark and so it's not "cool" to like them anymore. I don't think it has anything to do with their music in general.

Why does it matter to you? Training does not equate to taste. Tons of educated cooks still use mayonnaise, which I find terrifically disgusting. No difference. It's not worth sweating about.
Would you care less if they weren't classically trained musicians? It really shouldn't matter at all.

I think you are right in a sense but wrong in another. Yes it doesn't make that big a difference whether they are trained differently or not. But in order to respect a musician, or not, sometimes to have a more valid opinion you do have to at least be one in the first place.SimsUK wrote:Why does it matter to you? whenever that happens to me, i just say that carter is one of, if not the most talented drummers in america...and everyone, emo, scremo, punk, jazz, heavy metal, blues, agrees. and then say he wouldn't join a band that is simple minded and shitty...then everything works out

Sometimes when I know someone's a DMB fan, I trash them just to see how pissed they get
It gets amusing.
