So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

hi
I really love the sound of the long jam in LIOG, especially when D&T plays it...listen to 1999.02.07 and other D&T-shows. it really sound great with two guitars and I would really love to play it. so...does anybody have an idea what they play to make it sound so good? I can play it like the tab on this great site...but do you know of any of Tim's fills or other things to play around with? I usually add the higher e-string at times...but if u have any other ideas it would be greatly appreciated

this thread might help you out a bit:
Alternatives for Jams in LIOG? it will get you started anyway. if you know any lead guitar, you can just dick around in d major/b minor

beginning of Tim's solo at chicago (this is an extremely rough sketch.. it's 5 am, i'm not plugged in and tabbing it as i go along so bear with me, lol)
E--------------------
A--------------------
D-------------------
G---------------------
B--7h8--10--8--7--10-10-
E---------------------------
i'm too damn tired to type it all right now
he does a little thing on the 9th and 10th frets on the high e right after that but i need some distortion to help me figure out exactly how he's doing it and i can't exactly make much noise, when you consider the time.
i'll eventually get this all tabbed out
i've figured most of it out when playing along so it's just a matter of figuring otu some more intricate things (i.e. where he's sliding, using hammer ons or whatever - sometimes it's slurred b/ cof the effects), and some of hte faster parts (whcih i dunno if i'll be able to do).
but i'll have a go at it and hopefully find some time to get some more up.
one thingi suggest is fiddling around in d major on the g-string while doing that first progression of the long jam part of the song.

I dont believe dave or tim do this but I found when playing this jam there are a few ways to change the chords to make it sound as little more interesting. One way I use is playing the same note played on the low E string on the high e string
Another thing you can do is change the note played on the G string by either moving up a half or a whole step depending on whats's approiate in the scale. for example
-----------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------
---11--12--11-----9-11--9-----7--9--7----4--6-----------
------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------
---10--10--10-----9--9--9-----7--7--7----3---5---------
