from rolling stones interview:
DMB uses a microphone system that allows you guys to communicate with one another onstage. What do you talk about during shows?
We talk about rude shit. Just bad humor.
Do you talk about girls in the audience?
Yeah. Sometimes we're kind of brutal. We might just laugh at someone who can't dance, the size of breasts. We talk shit about each other. I spend a lot of time asking Carter how much I suck.
lol i always see concerts where dave turns around an starts talking and think "who is he talking to and how can they hear him?"
cuz i've been onstage before and its almost impossible to talk to each other sometimes and thats just with a few hundred people...i can't even imagine what 100,000 would be like
so does anyone know what microphone system he's talking about?

I would assume its the IEM ( Inner Ear Monitor / Microphone ) system , its used also to hear what they are playing better without all the confusing noise

You can hear it from some IEM recorded shows

Do they all have mics clipped on, I thought they just got by with the things in their ears and those picked up audio too, but I guess mics would make sense.

Hmm, I haven't watched CP close enough (or enough at all) to notice such a microphone and don't want to look right now. However, yes, the microphone for the IEM is in the earpiece. There is a canal that travels along the jawbone from your mouth to the bottom part of your earlobe (inside your ear). This canal allows any sounds produced by your vocal cords to go up to your ear - earpieces such as the IEM ones typically have tiny microphones where this canal is so they can tap into the sound.

Basicly most bands use IEM(In Ear Microphones) to communicate on stage.. i'm suprised to hear what they actually talk about :-p You can get recordings of IEM's, but they're illegal i believe and usually come from carter's mic
Shows Been to: 7-17-02, 12-15-03, 7-20-04, 7-5/6-05
