Any Recording Guru's Out there?
im building a new PC and wanted to know if anyone knows anything about soundcards. not the sound blaster kind, but ones used for pro audio recording. i just want to hook a mixer up to it with the best possible connection. what type of soundcard should I get?
also, if anyone has experience in micing guitar amps, please let me know. im just starting to get into this. ive been recording direct for a number of years, and finally got an amp noteworthy of recording.
thanks in advance.

I dont know much about what soundcard you will need, but What kinda setup are you planning on using? If you are going to get a nice setup with an interface like a Digi 001, or something like that, you wont need the very nicest soundcard because your PCI card that you get with the setup will act as your soundcard during the recording process.
Micing a guitar cabinet isnt too hard, you just listen for a good place on the speaker andput it close to that spot at a slight angle. If you are recording in a nice room you can put another mic fartur back to get a nice sound. Recording an acoustic is trickier though-
by the way im selling my M-box recording setup(i just had to slip that in there...Ha)

my bad "webster" (the dictionary). "soundcard" meant "audio card", which is the correct term for them, and these do not necessarily have to have a "breakout box". there are many models (Echo Mia, M-Audio Audiophile, Terratec, Turtle Beach, etc) that have high quality connections right on the card's interface. my apologies to you "Pro Audio" users for incorrect terminology

My comment was not at all phrased or intended in a rude manner, and your response was most definitely out of line. From your original post, it sounded like you meant *pro* (and I emphasize pro) audio users. Of course there are wonderful sound cards with good quality connectors, but very few are used by pro audio users; most use external boxes with additional external hardware, such as rack or tube preamps.jjr0319 wrote:my bad "webster" (the dictionary).
