Guitar Tune Up/ Maintenance

Unread post by kdz111 » Wed Nov 14, 2007 3:24 pm

Hi,
I was told that I should take my guitar to the shop every year or so to get routine maintenance and a general tune up. What should I ask for when I go in/ or what should I have done I have had my guitar for almost 2 years now and this is the first time I' am having it done. Thanks

1st build a rapport with the guitar guy. This can be done by telling him your name, giving him a firm handshake, look him in the eye and tell him firmly "that he really turns you on". Maybe show him your cock

2nd when he's inspecting your "guitar" tell him that it likes to have its balls tickled and it likes it when he looks up at him.

Lastly, probably most importantly, don't ever go back there or tell him your name. He'll want you and your "guitar" in there as repeat customers.

That’s priceless, I bet you that you have all the time in the world to fix your guitar while you live in your parent’s basement and attend your local community college, man I wonder what it’s like, it must be great! I would edit your post for grammatical errors but I have a real life outside the Internet and the Simpson’s. Best of Luck to you and I really mean that.

The Simpson's what?
"Forget about what you are escaping from," he said, quoting an old maxim of Kornblum's. "Reserve your anxiety for what you are escaping to."

you must be a fucking BLAST to hang out with in the "real world". I know "community" college isn't the ultra cool mega school like PSU. One day, several years from now, I will graduate with my associates degree and I'll be a manager of Chuck E Cheese. While you'll still be pimpin pies at the Papa Johns on Atherton. Tell Mike, the GM, I said "WAAAAAASSSSUPPPPPPP".

if it sounds and feels fine then you dont really have to do anything. if the action is too high/low or there is buzzing or something like you can bring it in and just ask for a set up and they will know. around me it runs about $60-80 at few guitar shops i know of.

You're talking about a set-up. Go to a local reliable music store and just ask for one. Make sure you note any scratches/dings whatever on the guitar before letting them have it. When I got my acoustic back after it's set-up a year ago or so I found two scratches on it that were not there when I left it, because I didn't follow my own advice:)

Ask them what a set-up will entail. Usually, they'll adjust intonation, polish it up, maybe wipe down the fretboard, slap on some new strings, and if you ask they can adjust action.

EDIT- whoops, didn't read Humble's post.
