What would everyone recommend as the easiest Dave song to learn for someone that has never played his songs before?
I am starting with Grey Street. Is that a good start?

Grey Street is a good song to start.
Proudest Monkey is real simple, as is CRASH.
don't just stick to the simplies tho.. play enough to get used to the style and head on to something like the Stone. Challenge yourself.

i would start with crash. proudest monkey is the easiest along with typical situation, but don't start with those. challenge yourself. play crash, or i'll back you up, or song that jane likes.

I have only been playing 6 months or so but I picked up LIOG, the majority of Christmas Song and the beginning of Lover Lay Down. I have been working on Crash for maybe 1 week and for the life of me can't get the strumming. So try some of these after Grey Street.

grey street is easy, but i've been having two problems with it. the first is the muting, i can mute the A string fairly easily, but i can't seem to get the D muted. I've been playing it open and think it sounds ok, but each chord doesn't sound as defined with the D ringing out. how does everyone play that?
the second problem is that i become a total gimp when i try to play the
5 7
x x
x x
6 and 7
with my ring and pinky fingers. switching from my index and middle finger to that is just awful. i think that can be fixed by practice, practice, practice.
