First riff I learned was Down on the Corner and the first whole song was Hotel California. I woud play it endlessly and drive my roommate and my girlfriend nuts.

Good Riddance/Green Day was another early fav for me.
Forget about the reasons and the treasons we are seeking
Forget about the notion that our emotions can be swept away, kept at bay
Forget about being guilty, we are innocent instead
For soon we will all find our lives swept away

I had 15 years of piano before I ever picked up a guitar, so I had an idea of what was supposed to happen...

BUT, I forced someone to teach me the song because it's so badass, even though he told me it was too hard. And, I was playing it at 1% of real speed... and it sounded like crap until I revisited it years later.

I guess this was the answer to, "Which song did you try to play first."

I think I tackled Tangerine next -- a lot easier.
