Dave Cover!
alright, just for that, you are getting my opinion..
during the intro there is this guitar on the right plays something like on the high-e string sporatically that is uber-annoying.. I think there needs to be some more group interaction between the melody lines being played
Around :50 I am left wondering what the moving line is.. the mandolin playing chords seems to be the only thing that stands aside from the backing..
1:30, I like that the mandolin dupe'd the piano lick, but the mandolin was slightly out of tune on the way up..
The transition into 2:30 isn't so bad.. there is some funky timing issues with things fading out.. I like the interaction between parts here more..
I think the fadeout takes a little too long.. and ends abruptly
ok.. done listening now.. overall thoughts.. I think there is a lack of a driving melody.. it seems like a lot of packing for someone to sing over or something like that..
technicals.. the banjo on the whole is way muddy, lacked any high-end presence to get it to cut at all.. I think the mandolin needs some >8k roll-off as well.. there was a guitar out of the left that sounded pretty high-end heavy too, but maybe it mixed better that way (I think it wass 12-string) .. the piano, excellent addition.. I feel like you guys did a great job recording so many tracks together despite any criticism I may give, I'm just intending on holding you to professional standards.. nice attempt at an original instrumental, but I didn't feel like I was listening to a song but rather just a bunch of stuff that worked together.. seemed more like an interlude to something bigger, maybe..
6/10
PS, I strongly dislike the misadvertisement.. other people post cover's all the time and get 0 responses, you should be happy you get any.. and besides, after all is said in done, you should be playing and recording because you enjoy it, not beacuse you get feedback

im thinking about completely cutting out the banjo, it doesn't have a pickup and it sounded like shit when we recorded it.geekmug wrote:alright, just for that, you are getting my opinion..

i spent about 10 mins mixing this, so there are definitely a lot of problems that i can go back and work on when im not lazy
as for the misadvertisement: its ridiculous how often originals are neglected on these boards, not just mine but others as well. some people dont even take the time to listen if isn't by dave matthews, which in my opinion is a bunch of bullshit

It's not like he didn't tell you it wasn't a dave song in his first post.. you didn't have to click on it. The whole point of this forum section is to get your music critiqued, so what's wrong with him wanting feedback?geekmug wrote: PS, I strongly dislike the misadvertisement.. other people post cover's all the time and get 0 responses, you should be happy you get any.. and besides, after all is said in done, you should be playing and recording because you enjoy it, not beacuse you get feedback
