raised b

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

doesn't the guitar need a proper setup before tuning it to raised B (high string tension) ?

Not if you do it the way that the site has it down. I've had one of my guitars in that tuning before for over a month, and I've noticed no problems with it at all.

I think with lights they aren't strong enough to really warp the neck.

Mediums? Oops? :)

Mediums did slightly warp my neck but I think that the key here is to tune, play, and then loosen the strings when not in use. Oops? :)

:D In response to all the raised b questions and answers regarding "Stay or Leave," i just wanted to say that I have ONE nice guitar and have learned to play it in standard tuning but like the open string sound of the raised b. What I have done is tune my low E(6) down to B and basically mute it(don't use it at all) which lowers the tension and makes it easier for me to Not use (mute) but is not necessary. Then I start with my A(5) string and raise it to B, D(4) raised to E, G(3) raised to A, B(2) raised to D, and E(1) raised to F# Then play it with five strings. It does leave out a few notes cause you're missing the high B, but if you Don't want to change strings, that's the way to do it. Just use it like a 5 string missing the high note. Takes a little getting used to but it sounds right on and if you're like me with one guitar it's alot easier than restringing and sounds alot better than with a capo. Just thought i'd throw that out there. Solves low resonation problem of capo, restringing, and tension problems with trying to tune regular guitar strings up seven notes to high b. Again just don't use low E(6) at all and look at it like your 5th string is lowest. :D only problem is you miss that high b(1) but it is not used a whole lot in the song. Peace, also works with "Oh" and the high b string is not used at all in that song except for very last chord and if you must have that high b note you can play the chord and slide your F# string from 3 to 8 or 3/8 and you get that note.

 again this is Not the best way, the best way is to buy two sets of light gauge strings cause you'll need two B(2) strings, restring your guitar low to high with light gauge A string(6), D(5), G(4), B(3), high E(2), and B(1), but the 5 string method i like better than using a capo, you get more sustain, and there is no restringing and it's real easy to tune back and forth which is great if you only have one guitar.

ok here we go to answer all your raised B questions. I came across comments on a youtube video for stay or leave. Here is the link to the video and it is explained on how to do it the easy way but requires 3 sets of strings because you need 3 b strings. try it out cuz it seems to work for this guy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=stxLaLk2DDc
