i have a hard time saying DMB sucks - yeah, they could do more with their setlists, but they're still a good band, and it's not like they're shitty at what they do play - i think a lot of people on this board just hope for best-case scenario every single time DMB plays a show and are pissed when a few Stand Up songs make it into the playlists - you might enjoy other bands more at this point, but i have a hard time believing DMB "sucks"
i dont get what everyone expects out of a dave show. people think 8/7 sucked because we didnt get ants or two step. it was still the best show i've ever seen and like you said what they did play was amazing. if you guys expect daves best show ever every time you see him, he'd have to play the same setlist every night. without variety the show gets old and they cant get into it. it kinda pisses me off when people say a show sucks because it had too much stand up on it or they didnt play two step. it can still be an amazing show...id rather have them play balls to the wall with 5 stand up songs than play all their biggest hits and not be able to get into it completely.
WTF
where are songs like Stone, Pig, Spoon, Dreaming Tree, Last Stop, So Right, What You Are, Typical Situation, Recently, Raven, Kit Kat Jam, You Never Know, Minarets?
I don't consider myself a selfish or 'negative' fan, but jesus christ, this band has soooo much amazing material that they could be choosing from. fuck.

Now let me just first say I do not like Everyday at all, but the one thing you can say about Ballard is that he knew Dave was the one who should be at the forefront writing wise. Now he took it way overboard and basically cut out the rest of the band completely, but at least they were able to recover from that and go on to write some really incredible tunes post ED because he didn't actually change their style. The same cannot be said for the post Stand Up era, everything is different now and all over the place.littlefriend wrote:I know.whatshername wrote:batson needs to get hit by a train. i mean, you'd think that dave and the guys would realize..they know what the fans like/dislike. i think we've made it pretty clear that we hate stand up. why would the elect to work with him again?
I wonder if Glenn Ballard ever thinks "Wow. He fucked that band up even worse than I did."

Pretty much why I don't listen to them anymore. I happen to feel the writing became stagnant after the whole ED/LWS thing, but yeah. I'm actually really surprised they're still playing regularly. Everyone is so old with kids and whatnot.GSR wrote:You're missing the point. The point is they aren't writing good songs like they used to.

I just stand by the idea that if they went back to writing songs the way the used to, things would work out much better.
As far as going back to Baston a second time, I'm not happy about it either. But at least the band is having enough balls to not do things completely his way again. They're taking their time, and seeming like the really WANT to produce a half-way decent album again. Even though its late in their career, maybe they've finally got some fire in them again?
