What do ya'll think of Ovations?
A few of my friends got Ovations (pretty sweet lookin acoustic electrics from about 600-1000 $) I was wondering if ya'll know anything about them, seeing as how its November and "the fat man with a sack of shit" is on his way. THanks

hmmm. In general, they sound very good plugged in so if one plans to go giggin' with it, it would be an option. But It's not generally a popular choice for an acoustic guitar as far as its unplugged au naturel sound. I think you can get much better guitar for that price or less. Seagull comes to mind, Ibanez as well.

good, and you?
I bought my Ovation last year on Sept. 4 and it was my very first guitar, it cost me $420. I went down to Mars Music and I checked everything out, and as a beginner I liked the Ovation because it was skinny and I could see the fretboard better, and the strings were easier for me to push down, and I thought it sounded great. Fast forward a year, it's still the guitar I'm using, but it's definitely time for a new one. I barely look at the fretboard when I'm playing anymore so I don't need such a skinny guitar, My fingers are about 1000 times stronger so I can push down the strings better on high-action guitars, and you just don't get a good accoustic sound out of the the little body on Ovation guitars.
So, my advice is this: the suckers are expensive, and I was lucky to find mine for so cheap, but I think they're great guitars for beginners. So go ahead and pick one up if you're just starting, because I think it makes it a whole lot easier to start out. Also buy one if you plan on using it with an amp, because it does sound great with an amp. But if you've been playing for awhile, and you don't have an amp, you'll probably want something with a better sound.

I just got a Martin
I just purchased a Martin D-15 from zzounds.com for $570. It is solid mahoganey and sounds great. I would give it a look.

I almost bought one instead of Chet...the viper series has a fair mimicking of the semi-hollow bodied tone, but then I save up a few more and got the SST...I think that the ovation wasn't comfortable for my style; I like to keep the guitar up pretty high(how else could you reach those Dave chords standing)with the strap-----the round back kept sliding away so I personaly am not the biggest fan of them.

my experience with ovations is that they are great to travel with. personally, i like to have a lot of different acoustics with different sounds, i even have a 12-string. i love the ovation sound, one of my friends has one and it has this awesome bass response that makes doing slides like so much to say really fun. my advice is, if youre going to perform or you go on road trips a lot, go for it, if youve got the extra cash.

I have played the ovations and there ok I almost bought one myself. Instead I bought a Washburn D10 and it plays great for just messing around at home with. I also have a Taylor 814-BCE, but I only play it every once in awhile. I really like my Washburn. My next guitar will def. be Dave's Sig. Martin it kicks ass (plus it has Dave Sig. on it
)
