Is there a reason Dave doesn't use capos?

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

I don't know of one song where Dave uses a capo. Does he just not like them, or he likes the way tuning the guitar differently sounds?

I think your second guess is probably the closest to the truth, IMO. That, and retuning the guitar makes it easier on the hands to play. I don't know if you've ever thrown a capo on the 7th fret and tried to play Stay or Leave, but it gets pretty cramped.

Really though, its probably just because he doesn't need to use one

There's some song from Stand Up he uses a capo on, right?

Well we know he OWNS one.

He doesn't use it much though, apart from those mentioned above, i can't think of any other.

He always capoed the 3rd fret for Good Good Time. On the AOL Webcast of a show from Florida he used a capo on Sister that night. I think I've heard he did at a few other shows.

a capo on the 7th fret of course is really hard, but i think a capo on 3 or 4 is the easiest guitar you can play.

I suppose it depends more on the size of your hands. It's easier for me to play songs capoed that high. I have small hands, full size guitars aren't considerate of that. Stupid sexist guitar inventor! :ehleft:

umm....the size of frets have absolutely nothing to do w/ sexism or the size of the average hand. it's designed for precision to make every fret to raise the frequency half a step. but if you were being fasicious, then cool

Guitars definitely could've been made smaller. There's actually a company that makes smaller guitars for people with smaller hands aka women. . .

Why don't you just buy a smaller scale guitar? most guitar manufacturers offer that as an option on at least a few of their models, like taylor i know has a few 21-23" neck models.
