electric guitar

Unread post by justanotherfan » Mon Jun 04, 2007 6:29 pm

I just wanted to ask a silly question.......The Dave songs that are played on an acoustic guitar (which is most of them), how do they acoustic sound on an electric guitar???

I apologize in advance if this is a stupid question or if it has already been asked  .

Thanks........sue

I think it just depends on the player. In general, the "dave chords" work well on an electric because they dont ring too much to cause a muddy sound. Songs like Grey Street and Say Goodbye come to mind as good examples. I would say avoid open chords if you are using distortion, songs like crash aren't great because there are too many notes and open strings.

Again, just depends on the sound you get out of your electric.
Do I listen to pop music because I'm miserable or am I miserable because I listen to pop music?

assuming you're playing with distotion. i had a video of dave playing crash on a prs and it sounded fine.

but yeah, it just depends on how you play. i would actually prefer to play the more open, cleaner sounding songs on electric as opposed to the ones with a lot of muting and strong strumming.

:) Thanks for the replies...........I have been taking lessons on an acoustic off and on due to work. Now I am on a schedule and can go every week.

I was having a hard time with the acoustic so just for fun I picked up one of the electric ones at the store and really enjoyed it. It was much easier for me and my fingers seemed to work better.

Soooo since I like electric better I was just wondering how songs played on acoustic sounded on electric.

Again....thanks for taking the time to reply sue

I suppose the guitar you want to play depends on the style and the sound you want to output. Apart from Dave songs.

Keep that in mind as well.

I like electrics but honestly, I think a lot of people use them so much because its very easy to hide ones mistakes on electric as aposed to acoustic. So I stick with acoustic. Electrics are fun though

I agree with you about the mistakes. I am actually enjoying the electric guitar and I seem to find it somewhat easier to learn on.

I do practice on both.......I just love the sound of an acoustic and I am sure as I gain more knowledge and experience....I will have a blast with both.

I think (I may be wrong) it's better to learn on an acoustic / spanish guitar.
