Other tabs
I'm damn glad this site exists. Every once in awhile I have this crazy notion to learn something other than Dave, and I begin looking around the net for other tabs. Half an hour later, I still can't find a halfway decent James Taylor tabs site.
This only leads me to believe that Dave Matthews Band is the only musical group that has any sort of community on the internet? Am I wrong? Where's the Papa Roach webring? Does such a thing exist? Do you suppose that somewhere on this infinite network there is a halfway decent tab for Hotel California?

hehehe
I feel your pain, bro, I share your anguish (sp.) I do get the crazy urge to learn a non-Dave song from time to time but there are more shitty tabs than good ones out there is what I've learned. It really helps to be able to learn the songs by ear, I mean, most songs are just regular chords. If you searched long and hard enough, I'm sure you'd find a James Taylor site that had good accurate tabs. (not sure about the Papa Roach webring though)

go play some Dave and vent off some steam

good, and you?

Re: Other tabs
I've seen dead-on transcriptions of HotelCalifornia, particularly the Hell Freezes Over version. Go to POWERTABS.COM, download the powertab editor, then you'll have tabs that look like they do in tab books.Levi wrote:I'm damn glad this site exists. Otherwise, just use Google.com to run a search. I've always had good luck with that.

Thanks for the Clapton link, I've been looking for good tabs of his.
If anyone has a good James Taylor tab site, it would be greatly appreciated. I try searching with google, typing the name of the song, the album, the artist, sometimes a combination of everything, but it still takes me forever to find anything good.
And I was kidding Papa Roach webring, just to let you know. I wouldn't want anything thinking I was a fan or anything...

yeah I assumed your were joking about that - I got a good laugh out of it, anyway. James Taylor is great, and I wouldn't mind learning some of his songs myself. I'll give a little look and see what I can find.Levi wrote:Thanks for the Clapton link, I've been looking for good tabs of his.

most of his songs are just strumming or fingerpicking simple chords

There's a song James Taylor plays called (I've Got To) Stop Thinkin' 'Bout That. It's an amazing song, but you would think it never existed. It's almost impossible to find on Kazaa or WinMX and google has failed me as well. Edwin McCain did a really crappy cover of it and I could find a few tabs for it, but if anyone could find a tab for this song the way James Taylor plays it and posted the link, well I'd be a happy camper!

All I could find was this book with tabs for basically every james taylor song imaginable (not sure if you're willing to fork out $70 for tabs to a song thoughLevi wrote:There's a song James Taylor plays called (I've Got To) Stop Thinkin' 'Bout That. Levi, do you ever check out harmony central's tab stuff?? They've got LOADS of tabs there. I personally taught myself to play the guitar and it was off of the ubiquitous Mr. Taylor along with Clapton. Here's the link for the harmony central tab and then specifically, their James stuff. Some of the stuff is good, some is not. If you've got a good ear and some recordings of mostly him and his guitar you can do what I did which is take a look at the tab to get a feel for it and then sit with your cd player and the tab and mess around with the tab and also picking it out yourself. Anyway, here are the links:
http://www.harmony-central.com/Guitar/tab.html
(that's main tab link)
http://www.harmony-central.com/Guitar/O ... aylor.html
(and there's James)
And I don't know who said it, but someone mentioned that James' stuff is pretty easy as it's all fingerstyle and whatnot. Let me say, as someone who plays both James and Dave, that most of James' stuff is harder than Dave's and that it's far more elaborate than simple chords that are fingerpicked. There's all sorts of movements and fills, and to pull it off as cleanly as James does while singing it is more difficult than just about anything Dave does, IMO.

I just looked over that James stuff from Harmony Central again, and it really isn't as good as I remembered, which means that I did a LOT of listening and picking it out myself.
