Gervais on Rosa Parks "she was arrested but then that law was changed- but she didnt stop there, she started sitting in the seats saved for disabled people. unbelavable, she talked to the driver when the bus was in motion- did she have the correct change ready? - did she bollox!"

Boredom galore with farmyard yokel Dave Matthews
More isn't always better
Dave Matthews and his band have sold over thirty million records. That took them fifteen years, but still, that's a pretty good run for someone with a total lack of presence. I'm sure he knows it too. He likes to give us that impression anyway: "We're just a bunch of farmyard yokels from Virginia", Dave Matthews said three times. Make that OLD yokels, because Dave Matthews Band produces obsolete 'middle of the road' rock that has no place at a festival that brings alternative pop music.
MUSIC
With his solid rock music, Dave Matthews has been filling the largest theaters in the United States. More than ten years ago he was rewarded with a Grammy. In Holland, his following is a lot more modest, although he played at Pinkpop already in 1994 and 1995. He has probably used his contacts of old to get himself a slot in this year's edition?
POSITIVE:
Don't be mistaken. The seven musicians aren't wussies. No surprises there, since the band has been together for years and is used to playing for a lot more than just a few thousand people.
NEGATIVE:
Yesterday, Muse showed us how you can have a big ego and still be a great band. Dave Matthews shows us how it's not done. Almost every song ends with an unnecessarily long instrumental piece, that allows every musician to show off until everyone falls asleep. For a band that consists of black guys for 75% (drums, horns, violin), the band totally lacks a sense of soul, and it's not in the least exciting. Matthews himself doesn't look the least bit interested, which makes you wonder who in fact DOES get happy watching this concert. Alright then, a few dozen fans in the front rows seem reasonably enthousiastic.
CONCLUSION:
"We still have a few songs, and then we'll get out of your way", Dave Matthews says, with twenty minutes left to go. Very good idea. Next year on Pinkpop Classic? Better yet: in the future, just stay away. And take your modest retch-pop with you.
SCORE:
4/10

I liked his #41 solo before he got all crazy with the wah sounding like a dj scratching records. The Satellite solo was good until he went crazy with the whammy pedal. It's a cool effect used here and there but it got annoying, and then he just totally sounded like shit.bense27 wrote:Videos of Morello with DMB
