Getting a Washburn next week *Good choice?

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

Getting a Washburn next week *Good choice?

Unread post by MsB- » Sat May 26, 2007 5:39 am

Hey there!

Planning on getting myself a 300-400 range guitar next week,
and i liked the Washburn D10 S pretty much, compared to my
Motion Countryguitar, it sounds way better.

Anyone thinking this is a Bad choice at all in this pricerange?
Like, do you think there's a better guitar in this price-range, or a guitar just above the price-range thats way better?

Thanks!!

you might want to take a look at getting a Takamine. I've included a link for one that is $400 (but if you went to a shop you could probably get it a bit cheaper perhaps). It has a cutaway and solid spruce top and a built in pre-amp with a tuner. Quite a bit of people on the boards have Taks and they seem to really really like them so you might want to look into that. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the replies! And indeed, they seem nice guitars, the things i have to ask though,

1. They have a Amp. Since i wont be going to play with it, is it still a better guitar than the Washburn?

2. The current guitar im having is Heavy on chords, its a pain using barre-chords and such on it. Are those guitars (alvarez AD60SC, Takamine G Series EG340SC) OK on chords and not too heavy?

3. D'oh, you mentioned the alvarez AD60SC, and the Takamine G Series EG340SC as better guitar choices than the Washburn, why? And wich of THOSE two are better in ur eyes? Or are they at the same lvl of guitars?

Thanks!!

I used to own that model Washburn. In hindsight, i wish i would have bought a takamine. I recently upgraded to a taylor 314ce and know my guitars a little better now. Even though i would never go back to a guitar in that range now that i have my taylor, if i had to i would go with a takamine over the washburn hands down. Your best bet - play both and see which one YOU like better. (after all, your the one paying for it and playing it)

ive the Tak Ean10c

its basicly like the guitar in the link above, but nicer looking wood, same shape etc.

its perfect for playing dmb.,,, if your going to play lots of dmb, and cant affort the martins/taylors.
the tak's have a fully, but tinny sound that works well for this type of accoustic playing.

I went to some big Music-store today, and the Takamine wasnt around, they told me its pretty much like the Washburn though. and since i wont be playing plugged .. so im kinda hanging to the washburn side atm, is it worth looking for the taka even though i will never play plugged? also checked for the alvarez, couldnt find that one eighter.

Thanks!

It's totally your call man. All i have to say is play a few of them. Look for things like comfort, string action (height), and obviously sound. Everyone is different and everyone has different likes and dislikes. If you like the washburn, by all means grab it. Just make sure that you dont buy it because a salesman tries to push you into it (they DO make commision) buy it because it's the guitar that you'll love. Also, check just above your price range that your looking to spend. In my personal experience, EVERY guitar that i ever bought i was able to negotiate a lower than sticker price. If they seem firm, act like your going to walk or "think" about it. If they really want a sale, they might bring that $500 guitar down to your $400 range. (I had a job in the accounting dept. of a music store, youd be SICK if you knew how much the markup was)

Yeah .. Not sure if i can bring the price down at this shop though, it's running well and it's not a store with 1 employee =p there's like 6 walking around, dont think they can give me a cheaper price . But uhm.. Yeah, thought it sucked they didnt have the takamine laying around so i can compare those guitars. Going to buy a guitar today or tommorow ... or whenever i have time and test a few more guitars and choose the one that suits me best ofcourse.

i own the washburn D20S i believe it is?? Let me look quick.............................................looking......................................................looking................nevermind WD20S. I assume its close to the same. I use it as a beater and am thinking bout selling it actually since i dont use it much compared to the martins. But i think its a great guitar for the money. Its one of the loudest guitars ive played. The neck is nice and thin. I had to get it set up to lower the action and what not, but once thats done your good to go. Very durable, and consistant. The only flaw i found was that when chordings were being played, they seemed to be a little more spacey, not as blendful as others. Great guitar for dave type stuff though. I learned a lot of Mr. matthews on that guitar.....ITS LOUD

Micah

whoops i didnt see that you already bought a guitar ahah my bad. Happy playing!

hahaha, thanks though!

Gotta say, i do recommend the Ibanez i bought for that price range, the actual price was around 280, and i actually was thinking about a price at 300-420, but i thought this guitar was doing the trick so i went for it!

Gz!
