strumming

Unread post by seel98 » Fri Jan 24, 2003 4:44 pm

Was hoping someone could help me with strumming. I can't seem to maintain a consistancy with strumming. I guess my question is do you strum with mostly elbow action, or wrist action. I try and strum as light as possible but i find that i mess up the rythem or miss a string. ON songs such as Billies or crash i can finger just fine, but its usually the strumming part that i mess up on. I would appreciate any suggestions, thanks,

kevin

Before I say anything I'll tell you I taught myself how to play, so this technique may not be correct, but it works for me.

When I play I have my forearm more less anchored on the top edge of the belly of the guitar. Although my elbow moves up and down some, I by no means use my else to strum. it's mostly my wrist.

Make sure you aren't to up tight when you play. Relax and you will also be more comfortable and won't hurt as much when you are done. It's really hard to explain with out a video. But to tell you the truth, I ended up strumming a lot like Dave, so if you watch any DVD's of DMB's, just watching dave play.
