Tim, most definitely. Santana sounds exactly the same every time. His stuff is all recycled. I'd say Tim is a much more progressive guitar player, experimenting with delay loops and harmonics and shit. He manages to do a lot of original sounding lead guitar parts to everything.

i was downloading some videos and i came across this acoustic set with Dave Matthews, Tim Reynolds and Carlos Santana.

they do two songs that i've never heard before but i think now that i can safely safe that Carlos Santana is not better than Tim Reynolds.
throughout the whole thing Tim pretty much lets Carlos take care of the solos and then they share one in the middle. but the best part is at the end when Santana has this long sol and then tim takes over and blows him away 8)
i don't think its like comparing apples and oranges at all though. i'd say its more like comparing Quincy Carter to Bret Farve, they're both pros...but lol Qunicy Carter is no Bret Farve 8)

*edit they performed Love of My life and JTR

Anyone who says Carlos probably never listened to any of Tim's better stuff. The more I've gotten into the guitar the more I realize how good he is. He doesn't get nearly enough respect for his songwriting. His solo fingerstyle arrangements are really complex and thoughtful.

I'm going to give Santana the benifit of the doubt on that one. He style is much better suited to an electric and Tim was probably a lot more comfortable in that setting. Tim is better though.

well santana was playing a classical guitar and the songs had a spanish feel to them so i figured it was right up his alley

They both rock the house. I think Tim is better. However, I think we shouldn't compare apples to oranges here.

Carlos is strictly a solo player with bands. Tim can not only solo like an animal, but he can acompany, use effects for subtle backing, and complement anyone he plays with limitlessly.

Yeah mee too, but it seems like a lost cause. It's never played and really never appreciated by most.

Tim. Santana's solos all sound the same.

And a lot of the best guitarist can't read music; Wes Montgomery, Dave Matthews, etc. I don't think Hendrix could, either.
Stay with me, safe and ignorant.
