of all songs why does dave drop d for this one? The way i understand this song, the only time dave uses the low e string (which is tunned to d) is on the lovely lady part.

--2------2
--3------3

--3----- 2-
why doesn't he just do something like this instead in standard?
Also the chorus. I like to play F G C in standard open chords. however, with the drop D you can do that you have to slide up to the 8th fret on the second string.

Actually
the part is play:
so it's in drop D to get more of a slap sound while playing it rather than having the bass E string ring out

Drop-D(pun intended) seems to be something they were playing with for "BTCS", i.e. DDTW, Last Stop, Crush. From there dave started toying with alternate tunings. It was a musical step away from the normal tuning.

the jam needs the drop D and i play the third chord in the chorus like this
-----------
-----------
-----------
----10----
----10----
----10----
In drop D
EDIT: Excuse my ignorence I just looked at the tabs and there truly is no reason to play it in drop. I have never played it in standerd, but from the looks of the tabs it will sound the exact same.
