So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

what don't you get?
all this crap, pat. Theory is so overwhelming to me, whenever i look at any kind of source. I actually just found some lessons online though that have been the easiest thing i've seen so far to understand.

nothing to tough going on here. check it out:

triads!

major triad of any key is made up of the 1, 3, and 5 of that key. (always relate to the major scale)

C Major scale:

C D E F G A B

The first is C, the third is E, and the fifth is G.

Therefore...major triad of the C scale: C, E, G. Those notes make up a C chord.

Look at this:

Code: Select all

E--3--
B--1--
G--0--
D--2--
A--3--
E-----
Notes, starting from the C: C, E, G, C, G. Looks like a more complicated chord, but it's only a different voicing of a C major chord. It contains those three special notes...C, E, and G. (1, 3, and 5)

Now the minor triad is similar, but you flat the third. 1 b3 5. (related to the major scale.)

C Major scale:
C D E F G A B

Take the first (C), flat the third (Eb) and take the fifth (G.)
Tada! C minor triad: C, Eb, and G.
