Ants Marching On Storytellers ?

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

Ants Marching On Storytellers ?

Unread post by m98ter » Sun Jan 12, 2003 5:57 am

Ive watched this video about a hundred times, but I still can't figure out whats going on. Every tab ive ever seen for this song has the slides like these......

D -----4------4------------5-------5----
A -4\5----4\5---------4\5-----4\5------

Well, the way I play this my hand is always sliding down (seeing as how its a down slide) the neck towards the higher frets and it sounds dead on to what it should be. But then I watch the storytellers video, and I swear hes sliding up the opposite direction. My hand always moves down the neck whereas his always moves up when hes playing the main riff. Anybody know whats up with this? The way I play it sounds pretty much perfect, Id just like to know what in the world hes doing?

Alright, I just checked out the video and I know what u'r seeing.

First of all, up the neck usually refers to the higher notes/frets, down the next usually refers to lower notes and closer to the headstock.

Anyway, what u'r seeing is, after he does the slide, it appears he moves his hand back to hit the 4 or the 5 on the D string instead of just using a different finger. That's what I'm seeing. But it's probably just an illusion. He's playing exactly what the tab says (or vise versa).

By the way, don't forget the slide at the end. It's tough at first, but like all things, you'll get it eventually.

I know exactly what yer talking about. The problem is that the video of that part of the show is a little behind the audio, so you can't hear the notes right along with watching his hands. To see this the clearest, watch Tim's hands right after Dave sings "and these crimes between us grow deeper..." During his first solo, you hear the big slide up the fretboard before his hands move up there. I also thought it always looked kinda funny when he is talking about the cave crickets, his mouthing of the words is totally off. I think this will probably account for the problem that you have. :D

I have tabbed out all of TR parts in Storytellers (including the verse parts) . So I think you are talking about the slide part ???? If you are I don't know where you got 4 on the A and 5 on the D ... because how TR plays it is 4 on the G and 4 on the B .... then slide to 12 on G and 12 on B then he does alittle slip up that slide from 12 on E (high E) . If thats not the solo your talking about I'll tell you the other solo ! Cheers
