So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

That song is anything but boring. It's SO AWESOME, but does anyone no what the hell its about??? I have an idea but I don't want to say in case its way off lol. and don't say it means you pay for what you get in life or something like that, I mean his inspiration for writing it. I think its a great song.

did you read my post? I said don't say it means you pay for what you get in life or something like that, I MEAN his inspiration for writing it and not just the title. There must be a reason for him writing it. right?

i've always thought it was about julia grey, the girl that supposedly went crazy went dave got big. she was the one that said no to him three times about marriage (ibyu, halloween, and possibly grey street are about her). "everybody asks me how she's doing, has she really lost her mind?" i don't have any proof, that's just what i think.

Julia and Dave were apart long before DMB got big. Dave met Ashley 10/31/92. Coincidently the same night Halloween debuted. Which means Julia and Dave were apart by that time. And in 92, dmb wasn't big yet.

Another bit of trivia, Granny debuted 11/18/92. Eighteen Days after Dave met Ashley, who Granny is written for.

i think you misunderstood what i said. julia grey reportedly has mental issues now because she told dave no to him three times, so its very possible that pay for what you get is about her (people asking him if she really lost her mind). the first time he played pay for what you get was in 1994. remember two things had already come out by then, and under the table and dreaming came out later that same year, so yes, they were already on the way to hitting it big.

As for the meaning of Pay for What you Get, antsmarching.org says-

"Written as a reply to the band’s request for Dave to write more songs, Dave (as he does in Grace Is Gone) has alluded to a girl to mask the songs true intentions. Old theories held that it was about Dave’s fallen sister Anne, but that is untrue."

Just so you guys know

So if Grace is Gone isn't about a girl, what's he singing about? (Pardon my ignorance)
