Bass Strings

Topics about musical instruments other than guitar should go here. There's bound to be a Carter, LeRoi, or Yo-Yo Ma out there.

Unread post by GSR » Mon Jan 12, 2004 5:44 pm

so my ibanez's factory strings are gettin old and tired. i think i'll get some new ones to hold me over between now and when i get a new bass. but i have no idea what the hell light, heavy, medium, and all that gage crap is. theres an ad in my new bass player mag for free hartke strings.. all you gotta do is send it in w/ shipping and handling, i figure thats as good as anything....but any advice my fellow pluckers?

I've used the generics that came on my basses (my old Squier and my Yahama), but neither lasted long. I've turned to Warwick black label strings now. The set on my Warwick have lasted well over a year and they still sound pretty bright considering their age. I just bought 3 sets of replacements for my other basses...all Warwick strings, hehe. Ordered them online somewheres, 30 bucks a set...not THAT bad, really.

As far as gauge, all I know is that I have medium gauge strings, which I guess is normal. I'd assume heavy is a bit flatter sounding, but I dunno.

Where's the 'tender when you need him? :)
