Which guitar????

Unread post by Sciaracastro » Wed Jan 07, 2004 4:26 pm

I want to buy an acoustic guitar...i'm saving some € (yeah, i'm European if you don't remember!) and I can't spend much money...
My parents bought me a spick-and-span Fender Vintage Strat Texas (I love my baby!!!!!!!!!!!!) and now I can't ask them to buy me another guitar...especially after that I suspended my music lessons...
...I have to buy it by myself...
Now, can you suggest me a good acoustic electric guitar???
I haven't much money yet...but I must know how long my renunciations will go on!!!

on the basis of that one word alone, i conclude that italians are geniuses. first davinci, now sciaracastro.... wow.

as for your acoustic guitar, how much are you looking to spend. like 100 or 500 or 1000 (US). that would help if we had a price range.

cuz you can honestly pick up some pretty sweet beaters for 100 bucks, but i just don't know prices and stuff over in europe. you might want to go to a music shop and have them help. and since you are in europe a nice spanish guitar wouldn't be too hard to come by.

just go to a shop and if europe is half as nice as american shops, they'll help you out.

it would help out a lot if you gave people a general idea of what you are spending that way they would know the price range.

A lot of people here recommend Alvarez and I used to have one that wasn't too much money, but it still played pretty nice.

also check used instruments...you can normally get a better quality guitar that way.

Thanks for the "genius"...!!!
I really don't know how i want to spend...but I think over 500 € (1€ is about 1$ i think...)...something about 600? 700?
I really like Dave guitar's sound...it's very particular...Is there anything similar?

There's nice used Alvarez MD-90 for sale over at the taylorguitarforum.com. I almost bought it myself but decided I was getting a little out of hand with the guitar buying (is 5 too many?? lol). Anyways it might cost you an arm and a leg to get it shipped but is was in great shape and they were asking $400 which is very reasonable IMHO. But as a sidenote I would say look at Alvarez and even Blueridge (i love mine), you should be able to get a good all solid wood from either of them for $500-600.

As for getting Dave's sound....it's got nothing to do with the guitar. Dave has played a variety of guitars over the years and they all sound like.........Dave. His sound just come from his style. He plays very percussively and favors unusual chording. So if you searching for a guitar that will make you sound like Dave, well, you'll be searching for a long time. Just find a good all solid woods steel string and you'll be happy.

You read right, but i have a DX1, and i love it to death. I don't care if it has laminate back/sides, still sounds beautiful to me.

I've been looking around for this month, and I've found a Yamaha APX7 for 480 € (I think I can buy it for 460 €)...It sounds very pretty to me...
What do you think about it?

If it sounds good to you, that's all that matters. I have a Yamaha APX-4A and I don't care for it too much.
