One Last Jimi Thing Question

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

One Last Jimi Thing Question

Unread post by johnnyd » Wed Nov 19, 2003 9:05 am

I hate to ask another question about this song but in the verse on the second hammer on on the D string are any of you playing an upstroke?

Verse
E:---------------------------------------------------
B:-------------------------9-----9---------2---------
G:---------------------x---9-----9---------2----6h7--
D:------------9-----9--x---9h11--9---------2----7----
A:------7-----9h11--9--x--------------11\------------
E:-7h9-----9-----------------------------------------
1_3 1 3 1_3 1 1_3 1 (3) 1 1_3

After the first hammer on I'm playing an upstroke on the the notes on the ninth fret followed by a downstroke on the muted strings for a duh chuk sound. When I play the second hammer on with another downstroke I seem to lose timing. It seems that the second hammer on should be played with an upstroke but I'm not sure if it's right.
I know this is a picky question but I have the song down really well otherwise and this little problem had been driving me nuts!

i downstroke the 3 9's, hammer on 11, and then play the second 9's with an upstroke... if you just keep your hand strumming in a steady rhythm with the song tempo it should just come naturally... watch a video of dave playing it and youll see

OK, thats what I thought. I was trying to force another downstroke there and it was throwing my timing off. practice, practice.

Thanks!

Guys, just use the code button when you are posting something. It's right below the subject line, and you just select the tab and it will be converted to a courier new font, so the tabs look nice and pretty. Here it is using the Code button:

Code: Select all
