Granny on Mandolin

Unread post by Ranting Thespian » Mon Sep 08, 2003 4:21 am

Well, this was from another thread in the dmb guitar discussion. I started to talk about mandolins, and I thought I'd just give a shot of it on the mandolin. I think it sounds nice. It was just a random recording, not great quality, and I didn't change the audio settings to make it sound perfect. So the quality of the sound isn't great, I just wanted to see what it would sound like. So

i think it sounds really good personally. but the mandolin isn't really a solo instrument. more of a lead or harmony instrument. you should put it in some of your guitar stuff...that would be kickass

I love the mandolin....and it sounded nice. I know you were just screwing around, but I agree with Appsoldier, it would sound great with your guitar in there with the mandolin doing some lead on the top.

Yeah, I was just screwing around. It took a while to figure out how to play the chords on the mandolin. If you don't know, this is the tuning of a mandolin

E
A
D
G

So, if I played them as a straight mirror of the guitar, the high notes would be low, and the low notes are high. Also, of course the pitch will be high, it's a mandolin! LOL :)

Anyways, I might do that sometime, adding the guitar.

definetly, i love the mandolin when put in the right song. i don't know if you like blue grass at all, but nickel creek has some awesome mandolin stuff. well...they are more like pop blue grass. but you should give it a listen. the mandolin is absolutely freaking amazing.

but yea, add some guitar to that, im looking forward to hearing it
