Help!!! Dual Source Recording on PC

Unread post by Roastbeef » Fri Sep 05, 2003 7:07 pm

All right. I've been struggling with this for some time. I have a B-Band pickup that I plug directly into the sound card of my laptop via a 1/4" -> 1/8" mono to mono reducer. Works fine. I also sometimes use a PC mic (1/8" plug) directly into the sound card. What I would like to do is either merge these signals together or split them in a stereo recording - one left channel, one to the right.

I have both a 1/8" Mono/Mono-->Mono Y adapter and a 1/8" Mono/Mono-->Stereo Y adapter (sends one mono signal right and one left). In both cases I'm only able to record one of the signals. Either one works fine one they're the only one plugged into a Y adapter. Any reason why one of these or both Y adapters wouldn't work? I love the sound of the B-Band, but it would be nice to capture actual room acoustics too. Thoughts?

get a splicer (or the opposite of one, forgot what you call it), or you could buy an actual recorder that could do it and screw recording into the comp

Don't laugh, but I actually did a google search for "opposplicer"! Honestly, I'm not normally that dumb. I guess I didn't get it at first....

Likewise, of course!

Thanks fatjack, but I'm trying to make due on the cheap. Anyone else have any ideas? I don't see why my setup doesn't work. Perhaps it's a soundcard limitation?
