So Cool Edit isn't working......

Unread post by sacdeez » Fri Aug 29, 2003 3:36 pm

I DL'd it and tried to record a friends show and it kept maxing out which caused the recording to sound like crap. My friend in the band mentioned that he uses Pro-Tools and he can go full blast into the computer and change it around to sound good. Well I can't get Pro- Tools because I have Windows XP on my computer and it doesnt support it. What do you guys suggest?

Turn down the recording level on your microphone.

On the taskbar mic or in the entertainment options?

And, don't use the mic-in unless there is no line-in available.. the line-in on a sound-card will always sound better than the mic-in (unless we are talking about uber-expensive cards with profressional pre-amps). Same deal though, if it is clipping turn the line-in volume down.. if you still have audible clipping, then the signal is clipping long before it got to you. Check the settings on the other side of the cable; they are probably too high.

well its coming out of a soundboard on my line-in with the line-in all the way down and its still maxing out. There's no way to turn down the gain on the soundboard line-out. so i'm guessing i'm out of luck
