Best Acoustic To Get For $500.00 = or - $100

Unread post by Toested » Thu Aug 14, 2003 6:00 pm

OK, this is it... I have the money to get a starter-type guitar. I have saved up about $500.00. Now, I need y'alls help! Which is the best acoustic guitar for the money? Right now, my lead choice is the Taylor 110GB. What do you think?

Can you get a taylor 110 for 500?

My standard answer is Takamine EG 240, for 200 dollars as a starter guitar.

Guitar Center has the Taylor 110GB for $529.00. I was stuck between the Martin D15 and the Taylor, I played both, and I just went towards the Taylor becoase the sound resonated more than the D15.

No, the D15 is not the best looking guitar out there but I personally think it is a gret buy. I personally think it has a great sound. Keep in mind that the sound only gets better. However, its your money. Play everything you can get your hands on.

I own an alvarez that i payed $260 for (RD20S + HSC)

its a solid spruce top and lam mahog b/s... you wouldnt believe the sound that comes out of it... its amazing, especially for such a low end guitar. alvarez has some great buys and i think theyre at the top of the lower-end market

Please dont spend 500 on the 110 if its your first guitar, its a decent guitar but your just paying for the name, you could get something much better for less money, esp. if its your first guitar. Something with electronics and a non-composite body. I'd def. check out an alvarez if you can find one ( most places don't carry them), or a takamine, ibanez, fender, just check out everything. I was at GC and played a $250 tak that sounded much better than the 110 and had a pickup and everything...i guess what i'm saying is you can spend the money if you want but you don't have to spend 500 on a guitar when your just starting out...my 2cents.

I was thinking about the 110, haven't played it yet. No electronics in it, which sucks.. I can prolly get a better guitar with the works for 100 dollars less.

I'm in the Alvarez camp. I got one for my first guitar(rd8 $220) and love it. I've heard many good guitarists compliment it on how good it sounds for being a Cheapy. I wouldn't recomend spending $500 on your first guitar as well.

that was my first alvarez, but the first night i brought it home i realized there was a crack in the bridge and the tuner buttons were kinda messed up. im sure that thats not consistent with all RD8's. it did sound really good - especially for an all laminate guitar. $220 seems a little expensive for it though.
