QOTSA No One Knows

Unread post by CPTino3001 » Wed Jul 23, 2003 7:52 pm

I'm working on this song (Queens of the Stone Age - No One Knows) and I've tuned my LP down 2 whole steps to do so, just shy of a Baritone tuning...

My LP handles the tuning superisingly well, its just extremely touchy with the strings so lose and I'm having a hell of a time with the palm-muting...

Anyone have any tips, and is the low tuning bad on the guitar?

...hmm...post number 300...

low tuning can't be any worse than changing your strings, tuning up is bad I'm sure, but I can't imagine it is bad if some people leave their guitars without any string tension at all (no strings) for long periods of time........ however at any tuning other than standard the intonation may be off and what may be in tune open, may be out of tune at the same string at the 12th fret.

No one knows is played in standard isn't it? That's how I play it...
Look for the acoustic version on kaz. They play it in standard there.

Awesome band!

No, it's played in a half-step higher than baritone tuning (C to C)...

What guage strings do you have on your LP? If you're going to tune that low, you're gonna need you some .12's.

yeah, tuning down is never a problem. the intonation may be a bit off when you get as low as C but no adverse effects to the guitar structure or anything. i have a policy of never tuning more than a half step up but i'll tune 3 steps lower if i have too.

it is actually recommended that if you are gonna be storing a guitar for a long period of time that you completely detune it or just take the strings off. a guitar would much rather have zero tension than standard.

anyways...

I had extra light strings on it so it was really a pain in the ass, very touchy and intonation was way off if i put too much pressure on the strings...

I always wonder why people flip out when you say you've tuned low or taken all the strings off...Nothing I've read suggests it is horrible for the guitar...
