Stupid question(s) for starter

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

Stupid question(s) for starter

Unread post by cgalves » Fri Jul 18, 2003 9:16 am

Hey Guys,

Ive been playing guitar non stop for the past 4 months or so and am quite addicted to it ... and since I've been playing DMB, I have one question. Does Dave use mostly picks or finger picking for his songs? I ask this because even though I am a starter, the majority of my time practicing is spent playing finger picking songs such as Christmas Song. I also play Satellite and #34 without a pick. Is this how Dave does it as well or does he primarily play with a pick ? Thanks for the help.

Also, on a side note I have always noted that my picking hand is very weak when compared to my finger picking ability ... and for the past week I have actually started playing with a pick and playing songs like Pardon me, etc .. any advice to strengthen my picking ability ? And on a very very antiquated subject matter, is Good Riddance by Green Day a finger picking song or is it played wiht a pick?

Most of his stuff is picked...but xmas song is fingerpicked, 34 and satellite are not however. Picking ability comes with time, but do not forget how to fingerpick, (usually you hear of people who have always used a pick trying to learn to fingerpick...its nice to see someone who starts the other way around). I think good ridance is fingerpicked.

I play good ridance with a pick. Where are You going, and Grace Is Gone are fingerpicked. Pay For What YOu Get is fingerpicked as well

#34??

Speaking of picking and Dave Songs, where is the tab to #34??? Is it really that difficult of a song or is there (seeming) no interest in it? Although other tab sites have the guitar, it is not entirely accurate but it definetley is more or less correct. Whats the deal?

One Sweet World intro is also played with a pick. I originally fingerpicked the intro. It took me forever to learn how to play it with a pick.
