Typical Situation strumming

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

Typical Situation strumming

Unread post by dustin10 » Sun Jul 06, 2003 11:28 pm

Hey guys. I am a beginner and I started out with Proudest Monkey and have that one down. Now I am trying to learn typical and i got the intro down as it is very easy. I am now doing the chorus part and I can get the fingering ok but I am having trouble with the strumming. Is the whole thing downstrokes or are there upstrokes mixed in I can't really tell very well. Any help is appreciated.

I don't think there is any real definite u or d strokes in the chorus...just stum freely...mix in some ups when you feel it...strumming (rythmn) is very vital to a good guitarist...just keep working on it...it will come in time, and your ear will prove to be your best friend ;)

if I can clarify things a bit more, just ask...

I tend to strum down on the hammer-ons, and for each chord change. That is at least my way of playing it. Not saying its correct, but give it a try. . .
