cuckoo angel

On Angel/Everyday, right before "you'll be my angel..." You hear this weird cuckoo clock like noise in the background. You hear it nowhere else in the song(I think). I don't know what it is, but it sounds terrible. Is it boyd doing some violin effect? Stefan playing super high on his bass?
