How much theory should i know to jam n the spot, or what theory should i know ?

nobody need to know theory to jam...but you can understand how to jam (and open a new realm) by learning just chord theory...get to know the fretboard very well, and get familiar with all the chords you can...practice your heart out and most of all...LEARN TO USE YOUR EAR if you want to jam...the way I trained my ear was by trying to figure songs out by ear...now when I hear something, I can almost pick it right off the fretboard...so it ranks EAR, PRACTICE, CHORD THEORY and then whatever you want
