1000 would be low-end Martin, or a good deal on a used mid-range one. I would give you specific models but I haven't been current with the guitar market in about 5 or 6 months so I couldn't really say. 1000, though, can definitely get you a solid, in terms of wood and quality, Taylor. Probably a 300 series which are pretty nice IMO.
Others to look at are Larrivee's, Takamine's, Alvarez, Gibson. I'd say those 4 and Taylor/Martin you really can't go wrong with with what they offer for 1000... except for Martin. chances are like I said a 1000 dollars will get you a low range martin that will probably have laminate or be lower quality then a 1000 Alvarez, for example. You pay for the name with Martin until you start getting serious into the 1800+ price range.

Larrivee has some nice $1000 range guitars, but if you're really "looking to get a nice one", you might be better off just waiting until you can spend $2000+

Thats actually the exact thing I was going to say about Taylor and the 300 series. Donny if you have 1000 bucks go play as many guitars for around 12-1300 and below as you possibly can. I would recommend the Larrivee D03 but play a ton. But if you go in there and tell them you want a certain guitar that is advertised for 12 to 1300 but you only have 1000 they may cut you some slack. Chances are they need to sell it more than you need to buy itGrachi wrote:1000 would be low-end Martin, or a good deal on a used mid-range one. all Larrivees are built the same, the only difference in models is the inlay/decoration.markTR wrote:Larrivee has some nice $1000 range guitars, but if you're really "looking to get a nice one", you might be better off just waiting until you can spend $2000+
a 700$ Larrivee uses the same woods and building process as the 3000$ Larrivee unless you are getting into other woods

i find that hard to believe it uses the same woods. people wouldn't pay over twice as much just for inlay/decoration.Jack_M.D. wrote:really?Kahn wrote:all Larrivees are built the same, the only difference in models is the inlay/decoration.markTR wrote:Larrivee has some nice $1000 range guitars, but if you're really "looking to get a nice one", you might be better off just waiting until you can spend $2000+

The higher end models generally use wood that is more visually appealing but the woods used on the 03 series and the wood used on the 05...09...10 are all solid woods and of comparable quality. I would consider the 03's to be the best value available in acoustic guitars.Grachi wrote:i find that hard to believe it uses the same woods. people wouldn't pay over twice as much just for inlay/decoration.Jack_M.D. wrote:really?Kahn wrote:all Larrivees are built the same, the only difference in models is the inlay/decoration.markTR wrote:Larrivee has some nice $1000 range guitars, but if you're really "looking to get a nice one", you might be better off just waiting until you can spend $2000+
