music question

Unread post by cmarti10 » Tue Nov 13, 2007 11:05 pm

what is the name of that symbol which some times goes at the end of music. its above the staff and is a dot, with a frown line over it. like this (.
but turned so it is like a frown, and the dot is in the middle? and its basically the performers, or the conductors decision how long to hold it right?
