How does he do that?! (Strumming)

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

How does he do that?! (Strumming)

Unread post by MsB- » Thu May 24, 2007 3:36 pm

Hello!

First of all, im new to this Forum so ; Hi to all of you!

To get back to the question i wanted to ask ;

The strumming he does, now, i mean it takes practise to get into his strumming patterns, most of them are out of rage and just spontanious (I think, hehe)
But, the thing i wanted to know (Gonna take a song as example now) At .. Tripping billies, u cannot hit ur last two strings since it doesn't sound at all, u just use ur upper 4 strings.. How on earth do you JUST hit those 4 snares, and dont hit those 2 last strings at ALL? I can't seem to do it=(

Thanks for your help in Advance!!:D

Robert.

yeah, I let my finger closest to those bottom strings hang over a little bit and mute the b string, and usually mute the high e string with my pinky by having it cover the string.

Hey! Thanks for the replies,

Sooo, u use the Pinky and the Ring-finger to kinda hang over those two snares, right?

Hm, when i do it, it doesn't feel right, Can uhm, anyone able to "show" me how to actually hold it by making a closeup pic. on the left hand? using a chord from Tripping billies would be perfect : 2x02xx , thats the first chord i believe.

Thanks ALOT in Advance =)

Dave has an amazing ability to mute and control his strumming. If you watch his wrist it's a very efficient movement ...

That being said, muting is your friend :)

I'd be happy to show you if I had a webcam. I don't have a camcorder with me right now. As of right now I'm living in the stone age and record to tape, then convert that to my computer. I think i'll pick up a webcam sometime this summer.
