hey there, It really depends on if you want an accoustic or an accoustic/electric. But for accoustic, (being around 200-300 bucks) I'd definately go for an "Art & Lutherie" guitar. They really crank out the bass notes, and all around sound just perky for playing Dave stuff. It's pretty good for beginners and it's solid top too! Although there are minor problems with it. It's pretty soft, and it's not glossed (at least the one's I saw werent) and after a while you start to notice that it's tone is somewhat lacking. It doesn't have enough punch on the mid range notes (my opinion). But overall, its a great guitar to start dave out with.
If you're looking for an accoustic electric in that range, you might have to dive deeper into your wallet and maybe spend ~400 bucks for a nice one. for a begining Dave a/e in that price range, i'd recommend either a Takamine, Alverez, or a Ibanez, all three are pretty much the same, have a punchy voice, same type of body, and pre-amp. It's pretty much a toss up for an a/e, it all depends on which one you like better

i have an art & lutherie (until my taylor comes mwahahaha) and i must say they are very very nice looking and sounding guitars. be careful with it though. mine is about 7 years old and the bridge is coming off of it. i think it was about $350 but i don't know because it was my mom's.

Seagulls get a lot of praise (The S6+) and they're around $350, I guess. They sound nice (I've played one), but the neck is a little bit wider than standard. I went with a Martin DX-1 (paid $380) and have been very happy with it. A lot of people moan about the X Series having HPL sides and back but hey, it sounds good to me and plays well so who cares? When I feel like making the big purchase someday for the high end Martin or Taylor, I can still use the DX-1 as a beater. Try it. It's a nice guitar for the money.

Actually, I'm in the process of looking for a $300 guitar too. Currently, my top pick is an Ibanez AW-100. Looks nice, sounds nice, good price. But don't buy the AW100-CENT. Places like Guitar Center rip you off on that one...pickups and an equalizer won't cost 180 bucks....you can even see that on their site. If you want that, buy it separately. My 2 cents...PM if you want any other suggestions.

i dont like ibanez guitars... you can always buy a Taylor 110. ive heard amazing things about it. i think its about that range.

just wondering what you guys think of the Ibanez TCY10 Acoustic Electric Guitar... i am probably going to purchase one on wednesday, of course unless someone (w/ some sort of background that i know of) tells me any different...
(i dont mean to steal this thread, but i didnt think that a new thread was necessary because i am in the exact same boat)

i think you can find a better guitar for the money than an ibanez. look around when you get there.

Go Takamines! I have one also, an EG-230. Takamines like mine have a kick ass sound, are very light weight, and have a nice, low action. On songs like the stone, captain, warehouse, and jimi thing that comes in handy! Guitar center had a 50% sale and I got this guitar, normally about $400 for just over $200.ButlerGSU wrote:I have a Jasmine by Takamine. It was very reasonably priced for a Acoustic/Electric cut away.
My one piece of advice when looking for a new acoustic is to find one with a comfortable action. If you have to work at mashing down the strings ofa guitar and don't get a good sound with hammers and pulloffs, don't get it, because your DMB days will be numbered. Other than that, get a guitar that gives you enough pleasure to play it that you have to make a conscious effort to stop playing.

I agree on the Art & Lutherie. great guitar for the bucks, nice deep bass and the midrange on mine was actually pretty good but the guitars sound was lacking on the high range. kinda tinny trebles, but a great sounding guitar overall.PureDaveAddict wrote:hey there, It really depends on if you want an accoustic or an accoustic/electric.
