Download a cover! Josh Ritter - Girl In The War

Used a piano here on campus. I think it came together nicely. I took a few artistic liberties and included a little melodic section in the middle.

Sounds great. I really dig it. your voice is getting better, you're getting much better at staying on key. i would still work a little bit on adding more diaphragm and getting rid of the nasal. it's not bad, but the more you work on that, the stronger your voice will sound and the more tone you will get out of it. Great job on the cover though. definitely kept me interested througout the song

Thanks Mitch. I think this recording is probably the strongest I've done. (I'm saying that in the least arrogant way possible.)

Random movie quote to make you seem hip and "with it": As long as there's, you know, sex and drugs, I can do without the rock and roll.

That little intro thing was cool as hell. I like the piano a lot and the guitar accent it perfect. Youre voice is getting a lot better, and like mitch said, you need to sing more with your diaphragm. Belt it a little more.

The layered vocals are good, nice touch. Though overall i would liked if the vocals were a little louder than the piano, they kind of drown, put them out front, they deserve it.

Nice work overall, really enjoyed it.
Do I listen to pop music because I'm miserable or am I miserable because I listen to pop music?

Thanks. The intro is a couple piano tracks played in reverse. I should have made it a little a more interesting, but alas.

Thanks for listening, and I'll work on singing from my diaphragm.

Make sure you're actually using your diaphragm. High school vocal teachers world-wide are under the impression that means "low-breathing" (as if you have lungs in your stomach) and flexing the stomach.

The diaphragm actually seperate the ribcage (right in that soft spot where they first meet, above the stomach) from the abdomen. (If I'm relaying info you already know, stop reading; if I'm a little off, somebody correct me). If you take your pointer fingers and push the tips together, and then your thumbs, and spread them out to form a spade, you'll have the shape. Imagine pushing that back into that soft spot and connecting the spine. Where the thumbs would join the spine is where you need to flex (eventually it'll be a reactive thing you won't think about, or so says an opera-singin' buddy of mine). Essentially, you should be able to count from one to ten, as soft as possible to as loud as possible, without straining the voice or increasing your pitch.

EDIT: Oh, and that sounded very, very pretty.
Stay with me, safe and ignorant.

I really enjoyed this as well. You have unique tone which I think is key in makeing it...production was on too. maybe some levels, but that's it. perty

I don't have much to critique, Yeah you gotta get stronger but I think we all do. Tone kinda reminds me of Ben Lee.

Do you mind if I ask what gear you're using to record?
